Approving Comment Spam To Get Traffic?

Recently, my blog has been getting a lot of comment spam, averaging more than 20 everyday. I noticed a change in the type of comment spam nowadays. It used to be full of those wonder pills advertisements, but the general trend is more towards adult-themed sites nowadays. Additionally, they are all pointing to different sites, so there must be a lot of such content available online.

Although we hate to admit it, such content attracts quite a lot of attention, maybe especially among hot-blooded males. Normally, I will just blindly mark all comments as spam in my control panel, then scroll through to see if there are any real comments and unmark those. However, today a thought flashed past me. I suddenly wondered if there were bloggers who would intentionally allow such comment spam, just so that they could increase their traffic. After all, having links to those content could significantly boost readership and they can simply claim that they were victims of comment spam.

Of course, there are innocent bloggers that are plagued by comment spam and innocently selecting the option to approve all comments. I’m not intending to dig up the reasons why comment spam appear on blogs. I’m just interested to know if allowing such comments will boost the number of visits to a blog, or maybe even get some search engine traffic for those terms. Note however that I will not allow a comment spam to appear on my blog, even if they will get me traffic.

It’s not worth it to get some untargetted traffic and spoil the overall image of my blog. What do you think?

    how are u dealing with these spam? i check the source and blog it if it is not coming from my site. but this is not perfect still.

    any better ideas?

    If you’re using Wordpress, try using Akismet. There are plenty of nice things said about this neat plugin. Otherwise, you might consider implementing a CAPTCHA script, whereby visitors have to read an image to post their comments. For this blog, I use something God has given me naturally, my eyes. :) All the comment spam looks alike and pretty easy to identify, so it isn’t much trouble for me at the moment. If the situation worsens though, I might consider implementing Akismet and a CAPTCHA script.

    tried word form of captcha but doesn’t seems to work previously.

    btw, such spam i wouldn’t consider it traffic at all.

    and even if more terms on search engine, it will be like what u said, wrong audience coming to the site, making things worse i guess.
