Experiencing Neuro-Linguistic Programming

Blogged By: Low Hang Wei @ January 16th, 2008 - 1:59 am

I just came back to Singapore from a Neuro-Linguistic Programming course and this is the first time I skipped my lessons for a really worthwhile cause. I experienced and learnt so much that I feel like a totally changed person and my goals are now much clearer than before. I can’t say too much in detail about what I learnt, but the general idea is about energy building, conditioning, visualizing, effective communicating and talking to my subconscious mind.

Of course, I didn’t manage to internalize everything yet, so I still have to go on a journey to constantly brush up my skills in the tool. For example, I happen to be one of the few who are not so good at visualizing, but I am improving step by step and should be able to visualize everything well by the end of this year with constant practice. My language patterns need more work, since I am not very used to saying things with certainty and always have some hesitation. In a way, I am giving myself room to not follow through my goals.

The most powerful experience that I have brought back from the course is awakening my energy. I never knew I am so high energy until I attended this course and began building up my energy over the past few days. I feel different now that I have discovered this really powerful energy within me and I feel that it was just an excuse when I used to say that I do not have energy to work. In reality, I was full of energy but chose not to use it.

I also released a lot of my bottomed-up emotions and cried for what seems like eternity. I felt that I ended 2007 with only minor achievements and really did not perform according to my potential. I was still just like any other university student, wanting to play computer games and enjoy my life, without thinking about how much I can achieve. My eyes were opened wide after the course. I experienced a specified experiment that seemed totally impossible for a human body, yet it was performed right before my very eyes. The power of the human mind is simply amazing.

Anyway, I have nothing in specified to blog about, except about the amazing experience I had with Neuro-Linguistic Programming. I really feel that these 4 days are some of the best days of my life.

My boss happened to be a NLP practitioner, so I studied under him. I don’t think that it’s open to outsiders though, so you may have to look for a good course yourself. If you are talking about persuasion skills, I agree that it is possible to learn with books, but not so much for the deeper understanding of NLP. Perhaps you will still be able to understand language patterns and how to talk your way, but I think you need to experience some of the exercises yourself to truly appreciate NLP. I do think that attending a course is essential to studying NLP and anything I have studied about NLP or psychology in the past few years cannot match up to 4 days of experience in a course.

It may be different for you and you are somehow able to absorb information in books and bring them out in practice. However, I used to think the same way until after truly attending a course. :) Anyway, I’m still not good enough to be exchanging tips about NLP. The only thing I’m good at so far is building energy and I lack even basic visualization skills that most people are born with. I will make myself learn to visualize though and proceed with more advanced NLP in the year to come.

I went for one of such course 1 year ago. it change my life totally. I totally get what you mean when you found a part of you that is high in energy.

Jia you Hang Wei! The future is bright for us all. =)

Hmm, I don’t really know of any NLP course in Singapore, except Adam Khoo’s patterns of excellence. Is that the one you attended? Maybe you can give some feedback on the course you attended for those who are interested.

    Well done Hang Wei.

Yup, Pattern of Excellence is one such local program. I did that one in 2003. 3 modules. It’s now been streamlined to 2 modules I think.

Suggestion is visit: http://www.selfleadership.com/index.htm and get some information. No, I do not work with them althought I’m a certified practitioner and a soft-skills trainer myself.

I have not spoken to them before but I do feel that you will be on the right track here. Unfortunately, I feel that AKLTG is purely in the market for commercial reasons targeted at masses.

    Nic.
