Getting out of my comfort zone

Blogged By: Low Hang Wei @ August 1st, 2007 - 1:54 am

This week, I am attending trainings in order to be authorised in selling insurance products. The training session lasts from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM and it would be quite relaxed if that was the only thing I had to do. However, I had to finish up some work at my ex-employment and the few hours of commute is quite tiring. Add that to the fact that I am supposed to bring two Guest Exchange students around the campus this week and I do not really have much free time.

I got another shock when I heard that I am supposed to attend a weekend training and take tests in order to get authorisation. My manager was nice and offered that I attend the trainings some other day, since I am supposed to start lessons next week. Seeing that I still have not finished the project on hand as well, I SMSed her that I would let her know whether I would attend the lesson this week by Thursday. However, a few minutes later, it just suddenly struck me that this is not the way and I should just get out of my comfort zone if I wanted to achieve my goals.

Therefore, I immediately messaged her back and replied that I would attend the lessons this weekend. I have many activities and commitments lined up this and next week, but instead of feeling pressurized, I am actually excited. For example, I will be on full day course till next Monday and there are three tests on Monday too. On tuesday, I have to present my project to my previous boss. I also have a phototaking session on Wednesday, then another test on Thursday. Finally, I have to take another certification test on Friday.

Well… my manager actually wanted to postpone the test on Thursday for me, so that I can concentrate on Friday’s test. However, I decided that I am the master of my destiny and no longer a child having to trouble people. I may not know how well I can actually do as an Insurance Agent, but I do know that the sooner I commit, the earlier I can find out. I will continue expanding my comfort zone as far as my body can take me.
