Google vs Yahoo

Blogged By: Low Hang Wei @ December 7th, 2006 - 10:43 pm

I was just surfing around and thought of something stupid to do. Just a sudden instinct to search for Yahoo on Google and see what results would come out. Well… of course, Yahoo’s homepage will come out first, but I think it’s pretty interesting to know the exact text, so below’s the screenshot:

Yahoo on Google

Hmm… notice my underlines in red… so Google basically said that Yahoo is the world’s most visited homepage and that their email is the best web based email. See? That’s what I like about Google, so kind even to one of their closest competitors. Now… let’s look at what happens when we search for Google on Yahoo.

Google on Yahoo

Ignore everything except the underlined words, remove the punctuations and you’ll get “even more Advertising Programs”. Great… after Google returned all the good things about Yahoo, Yahoo went ahead and stabbed Google by accusing them of just being an intrusive search engine that comes up with even more advertising to disturb consumers. Maybe Yahoo should be kinder to its competitors and be more gentlemanly like Google. :)

Of course, at the end of the day… I’m just talking crap, it’s all algorithmic and generated automatically based on text on Google and Yahoo. Regardless, I just discovered today that looking at search engine results pages can be so interesting. Or is it just me who stared at my computer for too long and has now resorted to idiotic forms of entertainment? Who cares, I’m loving it. :)
