Recovered and Refreshed

Blogged By: Low Hang Wei @ January 21st, 2010 - 10:17 pm

I was discharged from my physiotherapy last week without any issues and I believe that my right hand is in fact stronger than it used to be. I would rate my own recovery as extremely fast and even the doctors and physiotherapists would probably agree with me. I’m really happy that it did not turn out to be as bad that I imagined it to be. I had imagined it to be a lot worse, but now I just feel weird that a stupid metal is sticking in my body and still contemplating whether to take it out. If I take it out, I would have to take another operation and repeat the physiotherapy.

Anyway, I would like to mention that my doctor, David Tan from NUH, really earned my heartfelt appreciation. Although I didn’t see him much, he has given me a warm feeling all the time. I still vividly recalled that he remembered some details about me even though it was one week after I saw him, things that I probably didn’t recall telling him myself. I also really appreciated the fact that he was patient despite seeing so many people in a day. My physiotherapists were also really nice, although I didn’t know why I kept changing physiotherapists every week until one of them finally decided that I will be seeing her from then on.

Anyway, if I don’t opt to take out the metal, I am considered to have fully recovered and that’s great news. Besides the physical problem out of the way, I just came back from a holiday where it was my first time seeing snow, not to mention heavy snow that falls once in a century, and I’m feeling really refreshed. There are a lot of new challenges ahead and I really do need the energy to tackle them.

In my job, everything’s really cool, good bosses, nice work and great environment. The only thing that is uncertain is career progression. There’s talk that staying put with the company won’t be beneficial to career and we need to jump. In my wife’s work, it’s not as encouraging as there are new regulations arising causing her life to turn topsy turvy. I know she’ll survive in the end, but I’m also getting extra work from her when I’m at home.

Aside from work, we finally talked about our future finances for the first time since we are together. It’s not like we are in need of money, but rather I felt the need to better manage our money. My wife is also recently spending more time with me and that means an increase in my expenditure. In the near term though, we don’t have any shortage of cash for our current level of expenses, but things are so unpredictable nowadays that it may hurt real bad if we don’t build a nest of funds just in case.

Hope this year will be a great year for all of us. Some of my friends are already beginning to see their ang-pows from the stock market. :)
