Schedule For My Typical Week

Blogged By: Low Hang Wei @ February 3rd, 2007 - 8:24 pm

Someone posted a comment on this blog and asked how did I manage to have time for my work and studies at the same time. In response to that comment, I decided to start this post and blog about my full schedule for a typical week. Before I go on with my full schedule, I would just like to mention that I really appreciate comments that my visitors leave. It really shows that not only are you interested in what I say, but you are also willing to spare additional time to tell me how you think.

I’m still just an undergraduate and there are definitely a lot of things that I can learn from everyone visiting. It’s also really encouraging to receive comments and encouragements from people you do not know now, but possible to become friends with in future. For example, just recently… I reconnected with a subscriber of mine who used to always shower me with encouragements when I was still running a newsletter. Every week that I send out a newsletter and talked about my life, she would be one of the few people to reply and made me feel that I’m talking to real people. It just shows how wonderful that someone from far across the globe (USA) can become a source of your energy.

Although I no longer run a newsletter, just today, she contacted me on msn again and we chatted for a good hour or so. Although our age gap is like more than 30 years difference, we still managed to have quite a lot of common topics and it’s just amazing how two really different people can just stay connected. It’s also funny that she would like to visit Singapore and on the other hand, I would like to study or work in the U.S when I have a chance to. Anyway, I just realized I sidetracked a lot again, haha. I guess I’ll post my schedule now, but I won’t have a nice format, so bear with me.

Mondays and Tuesdays
0800 to 0900: Traveling to work, meanwhile read up on articles that I’m required to read for schoolwork. Sometimes, I take a 20 minutes nap, which is supposed to help in productivity.
0900 to 1800: I try to stay during working hours although my work is flexi-time.
1800 to 1900: On my journey home, the train will be packed, so I won’t get a seat and I’ll just either read up articles or listen to audio seminars on my mp3 player. Sometimes, I’ll listen to music to help me relax.

Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
0730 to 0830 - With the exception of Friday, which I wake up at 9 and start traveling to school at 930am, this is my traveling time. The physical journey requires me to change trains after a few stops and then change to a bus also, so I can’t really do any reading. Therefore, I listen to my mp3 player: either audio seminars or music.
0830 to 1630 - My school hours. In between, there is a two hour break, so some days, I’ll meet up with my project group mates. We have quite a lot of presentations this semester, like at least once a week.
1630 to 1730 - Traveling home and just the same thing as traveling to school, except sometimes I’ll be talking to friends.

The rest of the time including weekends
The moment I reach home, I will either work or finish up tutorials and project work. Some reading is also necessary for me, since I need to constantly improve myself. Sometimes, my boss skypes with me at night also. If I’m in a hurry, I have my meals very late like 11pm and sometimes never have a proper meal… oops. I seldom take naps now, which is good and sleep like around 2+ am or 3+ am. On weekends, I catch up on sleep, go out with friends/family and clock the hours necessary for my work.

Haha, I must have bore you with my schedule. Talking about myself is never anything interesting, but I just thought since someone commented, maybe I’ll just blog the full details. Anyway, the comment also got me to calculate how much time I have if I just sleep 7 hours per day. Do the math and you’ll know we have like 17 * 7 = 119 hours! Let’s take away 2 hours a day for commuting and we still have an astonishing 105 hours per week. Working 40 hours a week is nothing when God really gave us so much time. You have seen my schedule, so why not get around to seeing how much time you have and how you can put it to better use? God has given us lots of time, but if we don’t use it wisely, we can never have it back. :)

Thanks! It was very inspirational. I sleep 8-9 hours a day normally. How do u manage to cut down so much without feeling sleepy or tired in the noon? I know the mind is strong but sometimes the flesh, at least mine, can be weak. Ha!

Well, in the first three days, I was so tired I thought I was gonna die. :) Thereafter, my body sort of got used to it already. With that said, I think it’s the excitement that I have something to look forward to every moment that keeps me going. If you have been following my blog, you might have noticed that I have been trying to cut down on my sleep, but it took me until now to really cut down. I guess all we need is just that little push and a reason for us to work harder. :)

Hi Sha, I’m only in year 1 at the moment. I am not really working on my websites now due to a tight schedule juggling studies and my work. However, the long holiday in less than 2 months and I will be able to free up time for internet marketing or stocks analysis. I’m really looking forward to what I can do during the holidays. :)
