Serving The Rest of My National Service
Blogged By: Low Hang Wei @ May 14th, 2008 - 7:34 pmI am now serving the remainder of my four months national service liability, due to the fact that I’m a disruptee. I reported to my unit in the next working day immediately after my last university examination. Haiz, my last examination was a real disaster, due to a real bad stomachache which I had immediately after the exam paper started. Sadly, we are not allowed to leave the exam hall in the first hour, so I just held onto everything that was making their way out. The moment the first hour is over, I immediately requested to go to the toilet and was done about 20 minutes later. Well… I was left with only about 35 minutes when I returned for a supposedly 2 hour paper. Lesson learnt: “Always remove your bowels before attending something important.”
Anyway, with regards to my National Service, I have been posted back to the same unit but everything has changed. My previous officers have almost all left the branch and the officer that asked for me to be posted back to the same branch is also in the midst of transiting to another post. The feeling of returning from disrupting is not really good with all the changes that have taken place.
Although my current superiors are all nice people, I think I will still miss those old officers that I have worked with, since I have worked with them for a much longer time. I also miss working with my NSF colleagues and the random chats we have in the branch. Compared to before, my office gives a more dull feeling, even though the physical environment has not changed much and that is really depressing.
Anyway, I’m finishing my service soon and will be a free man. Shortly after finishing my service, I will be completing all my university module requirements and start doing my professional attachment. I don’t know how my life will turn out after that, but I’m really glad that I decided to serve back my National Service during this holidays and I’m sure that it is the right choice.
