Sunshine Empire - Too Good To Be True?
Blogged By: Low Hang Wei @ October 2nd, 2007 - 4:38 pmIf you have heard of Sunshine Empire, then you would know of the insane returns that they have been projecting. While most of their merchants do acknowledge that these returns are not guaranteed, it does not change the fact that many people who buy into the program are expecting those returns. Many people are unaware of the potential risks of putting their money in a program like Sunshine Empire.
Firstly, the benefit illustration that their merchants are using in their presentations exceed a 100% annualized return, which is around three to five times the performance of top investors like Warren Buffett and Peter Lynch. That alone is enough ground for people to shout ‘too good to be true’. Additionally, their customer rebate program sounds just like a Ponzi scheme, since it basically takes only 10% of membership fees to rebate current members. In short, people who joined later are paying people who joined earlier. In order for a ponzi scheme to sustain, the amount of members need to grow at an exponential speed month after month. That alone is enough reason to drive rational investors away.
However, I recently decided to get a slot in Sunshine Empire and paid for the membership fees and GP fees of $11,800 just today.
Do I think that it’s a wise investment to make?
Not a chance, Sunshine Empire is not even recognised by MAS as an investment vehicle in the first place.
Would I refer anyone to put their money in Sunshine Empire?
Fat hope, why would I refer anybody to something that I do not think is a wise investment.
Why did I put my money in Sunshine Empire then?
- The desire to grow my money made me blind.
- While their customer rebate program sounds like a Ponzi scheme, their customer loyalty program does make a bit of sense. If you don’t know what these are, don’t bother to find out, since I do not recommend anyone to put their money in.
- This amount of money is what I made in investments for the year and I can afford to lose them.
Basically, the last point is the most important point. Never put your money in these type of schemes if you cannot afford to lose them. I sincerely feel that this whole thing is very risky, but I’m willing to take the risks. I don’t know about you, but my advice to anyone would be… stay away unless you are prepared to part with your money forever.

Should we trust someone who self declares himself as better than Warren Buffett… who has more than 10 yr history of failed MLM companies like NTI, NOP, SE, and failed and non existant projects like China Dream, Magic Kingdom, Emcom Taichung.. Dubious property projects.. and never gives returns to tens of thousands of customers?
Not only that, his companies are being investigated by the police of Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
April 18th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Look guys, fact about sunshine empire, everything goes smooth until CAD step in, and if it is really a scam company, why CAD has to investigate the case for 6 months ???
And it is still hasn’t finished. The longer they hold SE, the higher chances that we’re going to lose our money. Just come out with a result if it’s scam then close the company, if it’s legal then say it’s legal. All these money freezing makes all the merchandise lose a lot of money actually and I don’t think that CAD helping us, it’s like they’re killing us slowly
No hard feeling ok, it’s only my point of view
April 18th, 2008 at 10:46 am
Actually, i may not be rich but i overall dont mind the money cos it is the friends dat i have lost out to. think abt it, how many friends i have lost over the months. how much money i have taken from them. all i got left is guilt. I advice pple out there in SE, i have seen things u all din see, honey talk dat they use to smear over your eyes, all they are offering is nothing. If you din do well in exam and hope to get another path there, think again.
SE specialise in giving false hope, when you know your beautiful dream have burst, too late to cry over spilt milk
April 18th, 2008 at 8:29 am
Jeez, if people do not get back their money as per previously promised by SE, this is not a scam? Then it is an investment of no return?
April 18th, 2008 at 1:46 am
I am a ex member of NTI. For Goodness Sake. i last time in army gong gong blur blur one join NTI so long but i finally see the light. They give empty promises when talk big. I also saw they super jack up the price of their product when i saw a similar product outside in shopping center. i also sign up something like what now call SE’s GM, what lj infinite bonus. I oso din get wat so ever compensation. BUt really you got to give to them. they are really gd in brain-washing, i was brainwash once too..
Advice you all something.
Right or Wrong determine how many pple take which side. 100 pple near you can change a lie to truth. Better to stop dreaming and take life shortcuts. Live real.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
JP may have deluded himself…
April 17th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Jeez:
Not only in Sg, but also Malaysia and Indonesia as well. CAD is the police. You think the police would be so eng eng any how investigate companies?
Also I would love to hear why most people do not get back their $.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Jeez, do not understand why you are so defensive? If today SE is not a scam, CAD will not even bother to investigate on SE right? SE being investigated by CAD is a fact.

Beware of Em-max, new company by James Phang. He even has a company in Dubai called Seanet International Group.
April 15th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Walk up call -
Aha! but what proof do you have that it is a scam? If you have, pls by all means submit it to CAD, i’m sure many pple will support ur thoughtful act!
If you do not have proof, do note that by labelling it a scam you’re already liable for slander.
But don’t worry, internet is a relatively free zone, u can say any thoughtless stuff without much worry.. for now.
No offense otherwise meant to you
April 13th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Jeez,
I would rather phase the sentence as per below:
Inducing people into a scam without proof is an offence amounting to cheating & fraud, although this is the internet, be aware that some actions by certain netizens may be morally questionable.

See this. Our dear Mr Phang Wah has a track record of spectacular failures like NTI, NOP, Magic Kingdom, China Dream, Sunshine Empire / EPV / EGA, Emcom Taichung (btw what happened to the proj?)…
Each time he starts a new company he’ll say how he struggled to build up the biz, and fell. Using pity tactic? Success? Are you sure? It’s like Hitler who expanded his empire using his cult of personality which later fell in a short time.
Phang uses the cult of personality like Hitler
April 12th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
well, this is the same story all over again.
Sad that many people falls for such MLM schemes over and over again.
Greed is the sole reason for all these.
Either learn to be content with what you have, or equip yourself with financial knowledge ( proper ones .. not MLM propaganda ).
Good luck to all on the journey to financial freedom. To anyone who lost on this, just treat it as a lesson learnt. Do not fall for it again.
April 12th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
is this how edu ppl are?
are all ppl who holds a knive at the murder scene to be the real murderer..? not sure who enjoy his/her own bank account to be frozen.. i wonder.. i certain don’t like it..
what u often seen might not be true.. but only the fact behind will tell the turth.. but bo bian.. ppl enjoy to believe in gossip and looking things on the surface..
i wonder who benefit the most if S.E. is fallen.. the affected common line ppl? whose sales are affected due to S.E.? the JP? whose money is frozen by the CAD? the CAD?who claim to uphold justice but end up many going crazy because of their act and thanks to their investigation rate or who else is involve…?
the story is coming to an end.. lets no more argue liao… someone is bound to get benefit…but at the same time.. some one is abt to absorb the result of the sinful act…
so let the matter rest ba.. em max.. who knows.. it might really make it? for all we know… S.E. has been fulfilling the promise until CAD step in isn’t it? so lets let the show run smoothly and see what it will lead to… and let no one be blamed…

Money
Clients of MLM firm Sunshine Empire cry foul

Many now worry they may lose their principal sums after their rebates were discontinued
PEOPLE who have put money with the controversial multi-level marketing (MLM) firm Sunshine Empire are crying foul after their monthly cash rebates were discontinued.
Many are also now worried about losing their principal sums worth millions of dollars.
Several participants have told The Straits Times that they have been offered an option by their ‘upline’ - the person who recruited them to Sunshine - to cancel their accounts in Singapore and transfer them to a Hong Kong company called EmMax.
They have been told that once the Hong Kong business is built up, their rebates will start flowing again.
The Straits Times reported in November that the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) was investigating Sunshine, as its activities appeared more like those of a pure investment scheme, for which it was not licensed.
The firm invites people to become ‘merchants’ of online goods, ranging from health supplements to electronics. Concerns centre on the fact that participants can potentially pocket big monthly ‘rebates’, which are not guaranteed, without ever buying or selling these goods.
The rebates are based on the participants’ cash outlay, as well as Sunshine’s global turnover.
Six Sunshine participants were applying for refunds when The Straits Times visited the company’s headquarters in Toa Payoh yesterday.
One, who declined to be named, said he placed $12,500 in a gold plan in August. He received two monthly rebates of about $700 each, but these stopped once the CAD began its investigation.
Another participant, who also sought anonymity, said she was ‘very worried’ about losing her savings of $35,000, which she placed in four gold plans from November to early this year. Her rebates have ceased in recent months.
‘If Sunshine is declared bankrupt, I will not get my money back,’ she said. ‘Can the authorities give direction on what to do?’
She will not transfer her accounts to Hong Kong, as she is unsure if the move is legal because of the ongoing investigation.
Sunshine adviser and spokesman James Phang denied any knowledge of the alleged Hong Kong option when he spoke to The Straits Times recently.
‘I’m under investigation, so I’m not at liberty to reveal anything,’ he said.
‘To my knowledge, there were no meetings at Sunshine (about the Hong Kong option). People can come in and out. They can join any company. I have no control over the members. They are independent people.’
Mr Phang did confirm that Sunshine had stopped giving rebates in the past few months.
It was earlier reported that Mr Phang was linked to a failed investment scheme that resulted in 1,000 Singaporeans losing about $2 million.
The Consumers Association of Singapore’s executive director, Mr Seah Seng Choon, cautioned participants against transferring their money to Hong Kong, as it would put their investment outside Singapore’s jurisdiction.
‘Recovering money from a foreign entity is always difficult if the company is unable to continue its operation here as a result of the current investigation,’ he said.
Mr Seah advised consumers unprepared to stomach further risks to ask Sunshine for refunds - advice he also gave in November. He urged consumers to report to the police any new development or changes made by Sunshine.
Sunshine was placed on the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s investor alert list in September. This means it is not allowed to conduct regulated activities.
It is reported to have attracted 20,000 clients since it set up in Singapore in July last year.
The police declined to comment yesterday, as its investigation was still ongoing.

I seriously think James Phang is a conman who is so good at his game that he dosent think he is bullshitting when he tell other people stories. He may not even think he is lying. In other words, he is fraud and cheat, thats what i think…

money hard to earn…
i hope people do not “reinvest” into em-max and lose more…
better ask more probing questions rather than pull wool over ones eyes…
April 7th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Walk up call,
no use, many of those who mentioned negativity have already made their own conclusions and from what i see, even with explanations, they refuse to budge from their mindset. I rather explain to those who have joined after the investigation started to let them realise that the negativity they hear outside is mostly based on misguided conjectures.
Casino license? BUILDING a casino? Hah! Whoever said all these? Either the agent was taking u guys for a ride, or some pple are just masters of twisting info.
Labelling others a scam without proof is an offence amounting to slander, although this is the internet, be aware that some actions by certain netizens may be morally questionable.

I have read the whole blog and i am amazed at the history behind everything. for one, i was deciding on the ‘too gd to be true’ plan and was deciding to join it. and my friend refered me n told me specifically that em max is not together with sunshine empire. i was surprised at that and they have the same marketing stragety. i have not paid anything but i went for the lessons, and as usual, they said not to tell my parents and such. during the first meeting to draw me in i saw those underwater theme parks n such but i was doubtful and even though i’m only 19 i have the $ for a GM, the edited version of a Gp. which now costs US 6600 from what my friend told me, and he too is very unsure abt everything in the company. I have saw that there were many ppl at the toa payoh office buying plans (i assume). i have questioned how they earn their money and i was told of the different business ventures. not convinced easily, i search online and found information regarding the alert list, and i vaguely remembered my friend telling me that sunshine was earing so much that the gov stepped in to stop them from ‘earning so much’ this came from my upline’s mouth. i am standing from a neutral point of view n i have seen truths of SE too. the only answer now is to wait for CAD

Jeez, can you reply to all those who mentioned negativity about SE? Clear all our doubts? Haha
April 5th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
He has started a new company Em-max.
SE:
They said want to build underwater hotel in Sabah? What happened? Now u want to build in Malacca, in polluted murky waters?
Then said will make 90% of Taichung wireless. What happened?
They prided giving many times of capital back as payout. What happened?
They can shift buildings from one part of KL to the other, change designs midway. Why?
They shift entire buildings around Malacca resort project, even after it’s been sold. Why?
Even the promo video shows the wrong site for the project. Why?
Only selling to SE members. Such a small pool of customers, and yet claiming projects are nearly sold out. You sure?
Why never advertise in Wall Street Journal since it’s such a “revolutionary business idea”? The whole world would love to hear about it. Who knows THE Warren Buffett might also invest?
Why expand so rapidly? Have you got any basic business sense? No solid foundation want to expand so big?
No experience in property and yet building so many huge projects all at once. Where do you get the capital?
Wireless infrastructure, need permit. Need lots of money. Have you got what it takes? Still claim you’re doing wireless there when it’s been exposed as nonexistant.
April 5th, 2008 at 5:13 pm

Untill today morning my friend from other group tell me better go to fill & sign the form asap to get back ur cost refund from Em-Max but it need to take 6 months (they need to wait for more ppl invest to refund to us,but still dont think they will payback,or GP convert to their other plan at Emmax but sure rugi alot one.) My upline never tell me this case ,keep saying me no follow the group and know nothing, i often go to their forum @ comesky.com but alot of thing they hire, and also can check at cari.com.my under em-max section, cause cari.com are anti SE one.So all Sunshine Empire member try to take back ur own cost 1st. Walk up call>
1. I never claimed to be an expert. I only say what i know.
2. I refer to your post #435 : “jeff aw, your england damn powderful…it is quite difficult to understand what you mean at times…”
Someone pls tell me sarcasm is not a form of personal attack. Just admit it. Anyway this is quite OOT so i don’t wanna further comment.
3. Videos and pics may not be 100% accurate, but at least its better than verbal accusations without proof.
4. Full compensation.
5. “You are saying SE is an MLM network, then how come it is not registered as MLM nature in Singapore?” –> Obviously you’re not familiar with what MLM is. It is a distribution model for any kind of product. A company can sell furniture and register as a furniture company, yet choose to operate either using the traditional retail method, the MLM method or both.
There is no specific regulatory body for MLMs in Singapore.
Disappointed>
1. The investigation is ongoing.
2. Pls refer to ur upline for specific details if you’re an existing SE merchant.
red coloured stone>
I believe there are other pple like you who have been expecting James Phang to run away since like, the 1990s? To each their own thinking, I can’t fault urs because there ARE known scammers who run away with customers’ money so its technically possible that anyone could do it.
March 27th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
What the heck is wrong with society today, always indulging in meanignless stunts to earn more money, purposless explanations to explain them, hynoptised loyal servants actting smart?
I sounded so philosophical, haha. But seriously, whats with SE now? Or rather, what the heck is Empire Alliance? Is it related to SE?
March 27th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Jeez ,
How is the CAD investigation status ?
By when the monthly bonus can back to normal rate ?
I think that is the main concern for all SE Merchant .

Jeez, pls do not sound like an expert (from the way you write, i do not think you are one).
In the first place, my comment is never pertaining to any personal attack or to any nationalism, we are discussing SE scam here.
So what do you see in the videos & pics?
So scamming videos & pics mean proof for you? If you think it is, you are too native…pardon me.
Talking about compensation for NOP & NTI, full compensations are made? Or is it partial compensations and rest of the money kept somewhere? You are also showcasing your ignorance.
You are saying SE is an MLM network, then how come it is not registered as MLM nature in Singapore?
March 26th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
If this Mr Tan guy can run off with money, why not James Phang? Think about it…
March 26th, 2008 at 10:55 am
This is so amusing, lol.
Shall refrain myself from saying a whole lot of things which can fill a thesis paper. I’ll sum it up:
Too many netizens seem to be like children whose sweets got taken away : they cry and complain and curse the person, BUT prefer to do no concrete action about it. Wow! But if they’re really children, then i have nothing to say.
Think u had ur $$ scammed and want to keep the moral high ground? Go set up an appointment with CAD (its free), send in ur detailed report to CASE, gather a petition and spam.. oops i mean post them here for the benefit of the rest of your fellow perceived “victims”! I will even have respect for you if u manage to do half of these steps because it shows you are self-respecting instead of posting emptyheaded stuff here.
Otherwise, if ur not even related to SE, don’t worry, no one is asking u to keep silent. Just be aware that for every stinging criticism u make that has not been proven (if its proven, show it!), you are actually stepping hard on the bodies of the thousands of SE members that wait for hope and constructive updates but see instead ur doomsaying speeches. So before calling the kettle black, do ur own homework.
Want to air ur doubts? That’s perfectly acceptable. Use ur doubts to come to unproven conclusions and launch attacks on others based on ur own thinking? I believe Al-Qaeda and other terrorists operate along the same lines. Good luck in your extremism!
P.S. Sky i believe posting a wanted notice once is enough.. I have informed my Malaysian contacts already.
Walk Up Call> jeff aw is from Malaysia, Malaysians were never well known for their english. Another classic example of a personal attack.
1. For those who think EGA has no more cash and is an empty shell, just ask those who just came back from the Hong Kong EmMax extravangaza. I didn’t go, but i saw videos and pics of what they did. NOW that’s proof.
2. If you’re stubborn headed, don’t read this. But it might interest others to know that for those who were involved in NOP’s Magic Kingdom and NTI’s China Dream, compensations were given out by the company LONG ago. So stop harping on it and showcasing ur ignorance.
3. When pple are nice to me, I will reply in kind. Such as my downlines who like me are waiting for good news but accept the situation for what it is. In turn, I save part of the income from my job to payout to them their dues as a gesture of good faith. That is because they understand this is an MLM network, not an investment.
