The Dreams Young People Have

Blogged By: Low Hang Wei @ November 8th, 2007 - 5:22 pm

I have seen many people with dreams of retiring early and yes… that includes myself. However, when asked about our plans to reach those goals, we are often speechless or vague about details at best. I often wonder that without the proper planning, can we reach these goals or are they just fairytales that exists only when we are dreaming. Even for myself, I do not have the discipline to follow through my plans even though I know that following a plan gives me the highest probability of success. Often, I either get distracted by people around me or get emotional over some other people’s problems. In simple words, when I’m around people, I forget my goals and the action plan to reach it.

This post is not about me though, it’s about the millions of other youngsters (actually, I shouldn’t say youngsters, makes me sound old). Some of them are already working at very young ages just to support themselves. Unfortunately for them, they do not have the chance to pursue further education, therefore they have to work very hard just for that few dollars an hour. In terms of motivation and drive, they are definitely not lacking if you look at the number of hours that they commit to working. What’s more, some of them study part time as well or have a second job.

Despite their life being caught in this trap of survival, some of them do have goals to become rich by a certain age. However, I personally feel that their dreams may not be realized because there is no feasible plan in place. Judging by the way they lead their lives, it is very difficult to break through the rat race, because they do not have the spare time to pursue an alternative source of income. Also, their promotional opportunities in their jobs aren’t great as well.

Hopping from job to job, the pay still remains roughly at the same range, yet these people are still holding onto their dreams. I often think of what I will do if I’m in their shoes. What would I do to get out of the low income jobs and still manage to survive? If I threw away everything I have today, what can I do to accumulate my first $10k in the shortest possible time?

Most of these people cannot spend more than 2 hours a day and have less than $1k in savings. With this in mind, I’m posting a question to my visitors. If you have just 2 hours a day and $500 in savings, what will you do to accumulate $10k in the shortest possible time?

This is a tough question, but I really hope that everyone can try to think through it and provide an answer to the best of their capability. :)

You had the chance to get an education, which not everyone has. Besides, Internet marketing is a job too and it can be an enjoyable one too. What I’m talking about is the piece of mind that you can be financially free, rather than practically retire. Yes, some people will still want to work even if they have the money, but even these people would not mind knowing that they are financially free as well. There is nothing wrong with seeking financial freedom.

You had the good fortune to be financially well-off, but there are people who are earning way less than you. These people have very slim chances of promotional opportunities with their education levels. Financial freedom for them is a dream, but if there is a way to make their dreams come true, won’t it be good to share it?

I found your website when I searched for people who invested in Sunshine Empire. My sources tell me the arm of the law is closing in on them.

:::many people with dreams of retiring early :::

What is this “retire early” thingy with you young people? Its like you guys are allergic to work.

Somehow using a no brainer 2 liner strategy, I managed to have enough funds to retire early…very early.

What I did is study hard, work hard to get promoted, lead a thrifty lifestyle and have excess funds to invest. I invested in growth stocks whenever stock markets selldown and here I am. There is no rocket science, no search engine optimisation, just a 20-30 minutes of weekend reading.

Learn to like your work or get work you like, when you do it becomes a hobby…you’re retired to do a hobby everyday you report for work!!! I go to work because I like to.

I have seen a few bloggers that responded to this post on their blogs, so this got some people thinking. Maybe if you are one of those bloggers, you would like to post a comment linking to your blog, so the information gets shared around.

I will also be blogging about what I will do if I were in that same scenario in the next few days. Until then, I’m still looking out for more ideas. :)

MLMs always boast about retiring early, 5 figure income, etc. The odds and chances of these happening are about the same as striking lottery.

It’s better to get a decent job with at least a basic pay.

Don’t blame the people around you for your failures. You are just like the many punks I,ve come across during interviews. Full of sound and fury(so called passion) signifying nothing.

Those who acheive much tends to speak softly while those who just started their journey talks like they have already acheived it.

“my first million at 26, 32, 45…” what is new?

Millionaires don’t start off with a figure. They start off fine tuning what they like to do for the rest of their life. It is easier learning to like what you do rather than continuously switching jobs looking for that “dream job” that might be also a “hobby”

You will never acheive your first million. Not based on your naivete.

But Of course you might make a million writing books teaching those less intelligent how to make a million or two. There are fools born every minute. Those investing in SE are great candidates so are those in MLM schemes.
I’m sure there are enough preys out there for you. Good Luck.

    Hang Wei says:
You must be like the rest of those anti-SE people who think that I make money through SE. For your knowledge, I do not promote SE at all and I did not refer a single person to it and had in fact saved a few people who thanked me personally for advising them to stay away from SE. I did not and will never prey on anyone, so please do not think that of me just because I have a post about SE. Even when I had already put in my money, I have never asked people to join SE just to fulfill my self-interest.

I was persuaded to put money in SE and it was a mistake, but I did not bring this mistake to other people and even helped to prevent people from making the same mistake. Why do everyone like to judge people based on a single mistake? Are you perfect? Have you never made any mistakes?

I also don’t see why you regarded my paragraph as blaming people, because I was only identifying my own weaknesses, something I need to change to move forward and achieve my goals. Anyway, if millionaires don’t have a figure in mind when they start it, why do they advocate the importance of goal setting and one of the elements of a goal being measurable? Most of us need to see a specific target in order for us to move towards it, also called the law of clear vision. If you can’t see it, you can’t hit it. I know a few millionaires personally and all of them set goals for themselves, with specific figures in mind.

I’m not saying you’re wrong though, different people have different way of doing things and they may each be a fruitful way. However, I ask that you do not call me naive, because you don’t know me personally. The amount of books and ebooks I have read is easily in the thousands and I’m not bragging. You’re so quick to jump on me without getting the full facts right.

Oh yes, by the way, I will definitely be a millionaire unless I die before 40. Becoming a millionaire is not hard, it’s just when I can become one and I want to be one at 25, before my 26th birthday. Whether I will reach it or not is still unknown at this point but I don’t understand why do people like to discourage fellow humans more than encourage them. Seriously, my purpose of keeping a blog has been defeated so far, because all I get are negative thoughts, which does not help at all in my journey.

I do however appreciate you commenting on what you feel exactly. At least I know that someone despises me enough to write a post to put me down. It seems like the world can’t accept people blogging about their mistakes and any achievements I have is overshadowed by just a single mistake of putting my money in a wrong place. Even realizing my mistake early and helping people avoid making the mistake does not help. It seems like the moral of the story is to be perfect.
