Why Create RSS Feeds For Websites

Blogged By: Low Hang Wei @ April 29th, 2009 - 10:13 pm

RSS Feeds was something that I did not totally understand until just a while ago. To be honest, I am still not used to using RSS Feeds, but I can already see how effective RSS Feeds can be for the ordinary user. However, not many people understand how RSS Feeds work, so it still has not been picked up that much yet. Now that I have explored how it works, it does real wonders in helping to keep track of updates if I ever need or want to.

As per above, the first reason to create RSS Feeds for your websites is to help your visitors keep track of updates. The second reason is the possibility to get more visitors to remember and return to your websites. The third reason is to help search engines follow your pages more easily. The final reason is that RSS Feeds can now be monetized through some programs such as Google Adsense.

With that, I have provided the main reasons why RSS Feeds should be created, but I didn’t really know the power of RSS Feeds until today. It’s not because I just recently started implementing RSS Feeds, but because I finally started to implement it more correctly than before. I seem to have missed out a vital piece of code to make my feeds compatible with feed readers before then and thus I was not seeing any subscriptions.

After tweaking it now, I am starting to see some subscriptions flow in and judging by how it has performed so far, I believe that RSS feeds has the potential to increase the earnings of websites by 10% in the long run based on RSS Feeds income alone. If we take into account the potential for visitors to return to your websites because of these feeds, the benefits may be much more. I am not very certain of these results at the moment, since I have not been testing it for that long and that I have too little traffic to conduct statistically significant tests.

However, if implementing RSS Feeds is not too much trouble to you, you may want to consider implementing them. For all you know, you may find pleasant surprises.
